Job description

Principal Infrastructure Engineer
Location: Wigan - Hybrid
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

An established environmental services and engineering organisation is seeking a Principal Infrastructure Engineer to join the Land Development and Engineering team. This is a full-time, permanent opportunity for an experienced professional to contribute to the design and delivery of major development projects. The team consists of highly skilled civil and structural engineers with extensive experience in the assessment, design, and construction of infrastructure schemes across a range of sectors.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to lead and deliver innovative infrastructure designs across a range of exciting development projects. You will play a key role in guiding projects from concept through to completion, ensuring high-quality solutions are delivered efficiently and within budget. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you will help shape engineering strategies and ensure they are successfully implemented throughout the project lifecycle.
A key part of the position involves collaborating with stakeholders and local authorities to secure technical approvals for adoptable works, including agreements such as S104, S38 and S278. You will also ensure that designs meet current industry Codes of Practice and health and safety standards, while contributing your expertise to develop practical, sustainable engineering solutions. Clear communication and strong teamwork will be central to your success as you work with colleagues, clients and external partners to deliver outstanding results.
We are looking for a candidate with strong technical expertise in civil infrastructure design, particularly in highway design, ground modelling, drainage design and hydraulic modelling, including sustainable drainage systems (SuDS). Experience with external works levels design, including Part M compliance, would be advantageous.
You should also feel confident using industry software such as AutoCAD, PDS or XP Site 3D (or similar), and MicroDrainage WinDES/Flow (or equivalent), alongside Microsoft Office tools. This role offers the chance to apply your technical skills while influencing the successful delivery of major projects within a supportive and collaborative environment.
The organisation offers a competitive salary, contributory pension scheme, flexible benefits including the option to purchase additional holiday, childcare vouchers, and private healthcare. Ongoing training, professional development opportunities, and flexible working arrangements support career progression and work-life balance within a collaborative and inclusive workplace.
