Ecologist £Competitive

Our client work within the public sector and are looking to hire an Ecologist to help provide specialist Ecological and management advice to ensure they meet their legislative requirements and to help conserve and enhance biodiversity.
The role
- To ensure the Council meets statutory requirements in respect of biodiversity.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of planning and wildlife legislation, and update colleagues as necessary.
- Provide ecological advice to colleagues, developers/agents, Councillors and the wider public, and collaborate with statutory agencies on a wide range of biodiversity issues, from individual species to habitats.
- Assist and evaluate information submitted for planning applications and provide written comments on planning and other applications regarding biodiversity matters.
- Advise and assist enforcement teams where appropriate.
- Provide ecological advice and support on a range of council projects.
- Assist with the appointment and procurement of consultants to undertake ecological surveys to support planning documents, project work, licence applications and monitoring measures.
- Implement habitat management directly or through contract management.
- Assist with the provision of interpretation material and media.
- Assist with the production and presentation of reports to colleagues, councillors, outside organisations and the public on matters relating to biodiversity and ecology, including reports relating to the Biodiversity Duty.
Skills and Experience we're looking for:
- Qualified to degree level in a biological, environmental or ecological discipline.
- Full member or eligibility to become a member of Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years in ecology field.
- Experience of working with consultants, developers or other professionals.
- A sound knowledge and understanding of ecological principles, ecological surveys and assessments, and habitat management.
- A good understanding of the role of an ecologist within the planning process and the legislation and guidance that underpins this.
- Good understanding of the hierarchy of nature conservation designations and their level of protection.
