Environmental Permitting Advisor
£25,000 - £40,000 Salary / Peterborough, Aberdeen, Bristol, Dundee, Great Yarmouth, Paisley, Middlesbrough and Wetherby
As an Environmental Permitting Advisor, you will be working within the Corporate Stewardship department supporting colleagues on environmental permitting and planning matters. As well as providing support to the wider business to ensure compliance with the sites' Environmental Permitting Regulation (EPR) permits and the development of new capability by permit variation and delivery of environmental permitting and planning advice on potential new acquisitions.
The knowledge of compliance will also contribute to our reporting of the companies impact on the environment, on society and on the economy through the detailed and meaningful data collected for our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) report.
The role
In this role you will
Provide competent and accurate advice to the business on environmental, waste management and waste planning issues.
Assist with completion of high-quality environmental permitting and planning applications to deadline whilst meeting the requirements of legislation.
Liaison with regulators (Environment Agency/SEPA, Local Authority, HSE etc) as necessary.
Maintain up to date working knowledge of waste sector developments to provide quality interpretive support documents for applications - including operational processes, fire prevention plans, risk assessments etc.
Develop a close working relationship- with relevant Authorities, Environment Agency / SEPA, Health and Safety Executive and Local Authority Officers providing best advice on issues and problems arising on behalf of the business and clients.
Assist in the preparation and delivery of the group CSR report and the implementation and delivery of Environmental Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) metrics relating to compliance, resource efficiency and carbon reduction.
Requirements
To be successful in this role you will have
BSc or MSc in an environmental science, chemistry, or earth sciences subject, or equivalent
Demonstrable experience in the process industry or waste management/recycling industry and/or relevant regulatory authority and/or consultancy.
Demonstrable experience with preparation of any of the following:
EPR permit applications.
Contaminated land reports.
Waste planning applications.
Full driving licence, willingness to travel to sites across England and Scotland and access to a vehicle.
Experience of auditing environmental management systems
Practical experience in waste, environmental regulation, construction or manufacturing industry.
Knowledge and experience of landfill operations and / or waste treatment operations.
An understanding of the waste permitting system and wider waste management regulatory experience or knowledge.
Membership or working towards of CIWM, IEMA or relevant professional body.
A basic understanding of the social and environmental impacts and sustainable waste management practices facing the waste sector.
