Allen and York are delighted to be partnering exclusively with European Recycling Platform (ERP) - part of the wider Landbell Group - as they look to hire a Head of Operations to lead their UK Team. ERP are the only pan-European producer responsibility organisation dealing with WEEE, batteries and packaging and to date, they've collected more than 10 million tonnes of packaging, e-waste and portable batteries. This role has arisen as a result of an exciting internal promotion and the business is optimistic about bringing in someone to build on what has been a very successful tenure. This is a critically important role for the organisation and requires someone with a strong commercial acumen and experience of contracting in the sector.
You will guide a team of professionals who deliver WEEE, Batteries and Packaging recycling on behalf of ERP's members through a national network of collection points and using logistics, sorting and treatment suppliers. Between them, the team manage local authority contracts, purchasing, take-back services and suppliers. As such, your experience in a commercial and operational capacity will lend itself nicely as you will understand the challenges and opportunities that the team face and a large part of your time will be spent ensuring the team are engaged, with the relevant skills to fulfil their roles, and that services are delivered efficiently and effectively. The relationships, systems and processes in place are working well - but there are always improvements to be made. Where you can really add value will be your ability to innovate and explore alternative approaches, opportunities and waste streams and incorporate these into the existing business model, sometimes leaning on your European counterparts and by keeping up to date with best practice and what competitors are doing. You will be a thought leader within the space and be comfortable representing the business at industry events.
As a member of the UK Senior Management Team, you will contribute to the growth and future direction of the business and as such will come with proven experience of having done this in a previous role. Innovation in sustainability is an important way to distinguish one business from another and if you can come with new ideas and ways to build on existing service offerings, that will put you at an advantage.
ERP are a values-driven organisation built around their customers and team and they're looking for someone who aligns with these attributes and can use their commercial awareness and operations experience, combined with knowledge of the waste sector (in particular recycling and/or logistics) to come into the business and build on the fantastic work that's already been achieved.
Based in their London offices, ERP operate an agile working policy with a combination of office and home-based working. Given you'll be managing the Operations Team, it is important you're present in the office on a weekly basis so candidates in the Southeast will be preferred.
