Statistician/Data Scientist

Job description

STATISTICIAN/DATA SCIENTIST - Swindon

Are you an experienced and ambitious Statistician/Data Scientist?

Do you want to work with a team of likeminded professionals who are passionate about innovating and driving value from data?

As the ideal candidate you will have a proven track record of analysing large and complex data using both statistical and machine learning techniques. In this role not only will you create solutions to solve some of the most challenging business problems across the organisation, but you will also be supporting data-driven decision making and helping to shape the future of the businesses analytics products and services.

As the successful candidate for this role you will be an experienced statistician, or data scientist with experience using statistics, and a proven aptitude for applying data science methods to work alongside an enthusiastic team of data scientists, analysts, and subject matter experts.

You will be tasked with conducting statistical analyses and deploying machine learning techniques to provide solutions to clients across the water, gas and rail sectors. Day to day you will be responsible for ensuring your colleagues continue to develop their understanding of statistics within the broader data science domain, and together, ensuring the best tools and techniques are deployed to solve clients' challenges.

In this role as Statistician/Data Scientist often the datasets you will be working with will be varied and sometimes even messy. Educated to first degree level or higher, in mathematics, statistics or a relevant scientific discipline you will draw on your minimum of 3 years' experience conducting statistical analysis on large and complex datasets to work closely with subject matter experts and come up with methods to turn your insights into meaningful outcomes for clients given the constraints these real-world datasets impose.

You are able to demonstrate your track record of deploying data science products and experience in a regulated utility and/or consultancy environments along with potentially having knowledge in geospatial analytical techniques, while you work on all stages of the data science pipeline from data wrangling and cleaning, to analysis and data insights, to creation and deployment of models, thus allowing clients to make business decisions based on these outputs.

As part of this vibrant consultancy business, you will work on a range of diverse projects at once, ensuring that you will be intellectually and technically challenged.

In return for your hard work and commitment, you will be offered a wide range of benefits including:

  • Flexible working hours based on a 37-hour week, Monday to Friday
  • A contributory pension scheme
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
  • Free accident/life insurance
  • Cash Health Plan
  • Active Sports and Social Club
  • Subsidised on-site staff restaurant
  • Free parking
  • Cycle to work scheme
