Sustainable Timber Compliance Manager

Job description

Sustainable Timber Compliance Manager

Home working with limited travel to Maldon, Essex for meetings.

Are you passionate about sustainable forest management and environmental compliance? If so, we have a rewarding opportunity for you?

Allen & York is proud to be the exclusive recruitment partner for Brooks Bros (UK) Ltd, a renowned UK importer, manufacturer, and trader of timber products sourced globally. We are seeking an experienced Environmental Compliance Manager to join their dedicated compliance team, working from home with limited travel for meeting in Maldon, Essex.

As the Sustainable Timber Compliance Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that Brooks Bros continues to meet compliance standards, particularly concerning the United Kingdom Timber Regulations (UKTR) and European Union Timber Regulations (EUTR). In this permanent position, you will be responsible for driving environmental improvements across the company. Your tasks will encompass managing a small team, collaborating closely with internal staff, engaging with suppliers, customers, NGOs, and government bodies.

You will ensure compliance with EUTR/UKTR, Origin and Legality of Timber certification (OLB), Forest Law Enforcement, Governance, and Trade Licenses (FLEGT), Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), and Programme for the Endorsement of Forestry Certification (PEFC).

In the role of Sustainable Timber Compliance Manager you will collaborate with key internal stakeholders and others to ensure purchasing governance aligns with UK Timber Regulation, Construction Products Regulation, and the Modern Slavery Act. Incorporate environmental compliance into company procedures, working closely with the Quality Manager.

As Sustainable Timber Compliance Manager you will act as the Chain of Custody Manager, maintaining compliance across the company (FSC, PEFC, and generic chain of custody). Develop and manage a robust due diligence system to ensure compliance with the EU/UK Timber Regulation, including assessing and auditing suppliers and coordinating with external service providers.

Ideally as the successful candidate you will hold a relevant BSc (MSc advantageous), possibly in Forestry or Environmental Management, with practical experience in a similar role, with a strong understanding of Forestry and Timber-related regulations. Additionally, a thorough knowledge of specialist bodies and regulations in the field will be of benefit to you.

In addition, you will act as a primary contact for legal compliance queries, both internally and externally, report to government enforcement bodies, certification schemes, and trade associations.

It is expected that you will be prepared to represent the company at external committees supporting industry-wide improvements.

You should possess a full clean driving license, as national travel to other office locations may be required.

In recognition of your dedication and expertise, we offer a competitive salary ranging from £50,000 to £60,000, depending on industry knowledge and experience. Additionally, our benefits package includes flexible working options, a pension plan, annual leave, and death in service benefits. For candidates requiring relocation, a relocation package is available.

For a confidential discussion about this role, please contact Spencer at 01202 888986 Ext: 256 or email brooksbros@allen-york.com

All applications will be reviewed and appraised as soon as they are received.
