Job description
Allen & York are excited to be working with a manufacturer of bedding (pillows, duvets and mattress protectors) using sustainable fibres sourced from all over the world, as they look to recruit a Sustainability Manager to report into the Director of Procurement and the Sustainability. This is a newly created role, which has been signed off by the Board, confirming their commitment to sustainability and it's an excellent opportunity for a junior sustainability professional to work for a family-owned business and really help them develop a strong sustainability strategy.
You'll be responsible for developing and coordinating the delivery of the strategy, through setting up and maintaining environmental policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with legislation (ISO 14001), educating the Team on sustainability and collaborating with suppliers and customers (major retailers including Dunelm and Sainsburys). You'll be responsible for ensuring customer questionnaires are completed in an accurate and timely manner and answering any queries of a sustainability nature.
You'll also be responsible for looking after a range of sustainability issues, including energy efficiency, sustainability packaging and sourcing and you'll analyse data, produce reports, sit in on meetings where sustainability will be discussed and you'll share best practice around closed loop recycling.
With global operations in Asia, you will receive excellent exposure to liaising with suppliers so an appreciation of different cultures would be advantageous but isn't essential.
Based in Yorkshire (not far from Leeds), you'll be required to work in the offices and on site four days a week and in time, you'll be able to work one day from home if you wish.
Ideally, you'll hold an environmental/sustainability qualification, combined with a couple of years' experience working in a fast-moving organisation, where you'll have honed your organisational and communication skills but ultimately someone with a passion for sustainability and a quick learner are the most important things. So, if you'd like to find out more about this super opportunity, please contact Katie on kpereira@allen-york.com.
